Since 1990, Jerry Soverinsky has hosted travelers from around the world on his companys European tours (CBT Tours). This compilation of his 20 favorite tours offers details that cyclists of all abilities, in every luxury standard, can use to embark on a European cycling tour. Youll find detailed information, including:
(1) Turn-by-turn cue sheets for 20 itineraries, covering 12 European countries;
(2) Accommodations listings in every standard, from campgrounds to five-star hotels;
(3) Contact information for luggage transfers, enabling cyclists to travel worry-free;
(4) PLUS: hundreds of restaurant listings, sightseeing suggestions, general interest travel suggestions, and tourism links.
And in addition to discovering comprehensive cycling information, youll also find useful and humorous travel notes such as the following:
ON EUROPEAN COFFEE: One major U.S. chain would have you believe their product is consistently superior, and I would have to agree, if after consuming their basic drink, it is desirable to feel nauseous.
I, however, favor a less unsettling coffee-drinking experience, and I routinely achieve this when drinking coffee in Europe . . .
ON THE VIRTUES OF TRAVEL-RELATED INTERNET SEARCHES: Im sure youll agree that any medium that offers photographs of Anna Kournikova eating garden vegetables is worthy of your attention . . .
ON EUROPEAN CUSTOMS: Youll instantly know when youve met a native European: theyll bow and tie your shoes. After this welcoming gesture, its considered polite to place your right hand on that persons rib cage and say, "Tumult."
For an authoritative and light-hearted guide to understanding and cycling through Europe, Cycle Europe: 20 Tours, 12 Countries, hits the mark.
