Troubleshooting Wheels, Hubs and Tires

Tires keep going flat
Valve stem core loose Tighten valve stem core
Tires worn too thin Replace tires
Thorn/sharp object stuck in tire Remove tire, carefully check inside of tire for thorn
Rim tape or strip missing, worn or mispositioned allowing spoke nipples to contact tube Remove tire and tube, install or reposition rim tape or strip
End of spoke protruding past nipple and contacting tube Install shorter spoke or file off excess from spoke end
Air pressure in tire too low Inflate tires to proper pressure
Too many hazards in your riding area Install "Slime" or equivalent tube sealer in tubes
Wheel doesn't spin well or axles hard to turn (with wheel removed)
Hub bearings too tight Adjust hub bearings
Hub bearings need repair Disassemble hub, clean and inspect hub, cones and bearings, lubricate or replace as required
Wheel or axle feels "notchy" when turned slowly by hand
Hub bearings need repair Disassemble hub, clean and inspect hub, cones and bearings, lubricate or replace as required
Hub bearings, hub and/or cones worn Disassemble, clean and inspect hub and bearing components, lubricate or (most likely) replace hub assemblies
